Welcome to the 67th COCKBURN SOUND REGATTA
"Serious sailors, having serious fun!"
Hosted by The Cruising Yacht Club of WA
26th December 2024 to 30th December 2024
This Regatta has historically been one of Western Australia's premier events and, with its sheltered waters, stunning beaches and proximity to Fremantle and the metropolitan area, Hillarys and Mandurah, it's easy to see why it has become such an iconic event and a priority on every sailor's calendar.
The festivities start on the morning of Boxing Day when many of the Metro based boats enter the Kwinana Industries Council Race to Rockingham to bring them down into the sheltered waters of Mangles Bay. An arrival in the early afternoon gives everyone a chance to enjoy a few drinks over a barbeque and the chance to renew acquaintances and relive stories from years gone by.
The Regatta itself runs over the next 3 and a half days and sailors can look forward to a variety of Around the Buoys, Windward Leeward and Passage Races, depending on the conditions. Every effort is made to cater for the different types of craft that turn up so that the racing is enjoyable for all; feedback is sought during and after the regatta to ensure that we meet your expectations.
Whether you sail on a high tech carbon flier or a little stubby keeled cruiser, a multihull or an off the beach dinghy, you'll find some serious sailors have serious fun! There are fleets catering for different sized yachts flying spinnakers, multihulls, Premier Cruisers, Sportsboats and those choosing to leave spinnakers where they rightfully belong which is in the bag. The Jib and Main fleet forms the biggest number of boats and there are usually so many that they are divided into 3 fleets, sometimes 4.
The racing is spectacular and with most races finishing just off the jetty in front of the Club and the Rockingham foreshore, everyone's focus is on the sparkling clear waters of Mangles Bay.
The festivities continue off the water and an active social programme is planned with music and a themed buffet meal every night. Sharpen your wits because in response to popular demand we will be holding a Quiz Night.
Whether you are a serious competitor, or you just wish to relax in the Club and soak up the atmosphere this Regatta creates, you will find a memorable experience that draws you back again and again. If you are still in doubt, have a word with any CSR veteran and you'll be convinced to enter but don't leave it too late!
Welcome aboard!
